At Tender Tree Montessori, we follow a consistent daily rhythm that provides children with security, balance, and a sense of belonging. While our day is structured, it remains flexible so educators can respond to children’s individual needs, energy levels, and developmental stages.
Our rhythm supports care, play, learning, rest, and connection throughout the day.
A Day Designed Around Children
Rather than rushing children through rigid schedules, we organize the day into intentional cycles. This allows children to engage deeply, transition smoothly, and feel supported from arrival to pick-up.
Morning Cycle
5:00 a.m. – 6:45 a.m. (Extended Care)
The morning begins gently for children arriving early.
This supports children who arrive before the core program while maintaining consistency and emotional comfort.
Core Learning Cycle
7:00 a.m. – 5:45 p.m.
Morning Arrival & Breakfast
Children settle into the day through familiar routines and connection with educators.
This is the heart of the program and includes:
Montessori Work Cycle
Children engage in uninterrupted work periods using Montessori materials and purposeful play experiences. Educators observe, guide, and support learning through:
- Practical life activities
- Language and early literacy
- Sensorial exploration
- Mathematics and problem-solving
- Social and emotional development
Outdoor Exploration
Children participate in daily outdoor play, garden time, or nature walks whenever weather permits, supporting physical development and well-being.
Lunch, Rest & Quiet Time
Following lunch, children enter a calm rest period:
- Infants follow individual sleep routines
- Toddlers, Bridging, and Casa children rest or engage in quiet activities
Afternoon Play & Exploration
The afternoon includes creative experiences such as music, movement, sensory play, art, and group activities, balanced with outdoor time.
Evening Cycle
5:45 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. (Extended Care)
Evening care is intentionally calmer and less structured.
Children:
- Decompress from their day
- Participate in quiet play, reading, art, or sensory activities
- Follow routines shared by families (e.g., dinner, hygiene, pajamas)
This cycle prioritizes emotional regulation, comfort, and connection with familiar educators.
Infant Rhythm (Individualized Care)
Infants follow a rhythm that closely mirrors home routines. Educators work in partnership with families to support:
- Feeding schedules
- Sleep and nap routines
- Diapering and hygiene
- Sensory and motor exploration
This individualized approach helps infants feel secure and supported as they adjust to care.
Arrival & Departure Flow
To support smooth transitions:
- Morning and evening care may take place in a shared classroom
- Children transition to their assigned program rooms during core hours
- Pick-ups are calm, organized, and supervised
Consistent routines ensure children begin and end their day in a familiar, welcoming environment.
Flexibility Within Structure
Children are not expected to perform or participate on a rigid timetable. Educators observe cues and adapt the rhythm as needed while maintaining predictability for the group.
